Sheridan Historical Society to open Monday

SHERIDAN — The Sheridan Historical Society will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday for visitors prior to the regular monthly meeting. Masks are required and CDC protocols will be followed. The Society is located at 2702 Route 20 and Center Road.

Candidates event set for Oct. 7

The Fredonia-Pomfret Republican Committee announces a “Meet the Candidates” event from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at “The Next Chapter” Bookstore, 12 Park Place, Fredonia. County Executive PJ Wendel, along with Fredonia Village Board candidates Jon Espersen, Nicole Siracuse, Will Weatherlow and David Bird will be in attendance. Also joining the event will be local Legislators Terry Niebel and Bob Scudder, and Pomfret Highway Superintendent Jude Gardner.

Ski Club event set for Saturday

MAYVILLE — The Big Inlet Brewery, 6169 Elm Flat Road, will host a Boutwell Hill Cross Country Ski Club fundraiser Saturday. There will be live music from 2 to 5 p.m. and participants can find out about skiing the trails this non profit volunteer organization maintains specifically for cross country skiers on the Boutwell Hill state land in northeastern Chautauqua County and how you can support their efforts.

Apple Butter Fest planned for Oct. 16

WESTFIELD — The West Portland Baptist Church, 7081 E. Route 20, will again be hosting its Apple Butter Festival. On Saturday, Oct. 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the church will have old-fashioned kettle cooked apple butter available for a donation. There also will be vendors offering various sale items including food vendors. The festival will take place rain or shine. All profits generated from the festival will be donated to the Nina’s Kitchen Brocton-Portland Food Pantry, which is operated on the church grounds. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

Library dinner

set for Oct. 23

ANGOLA — The Angola Public Library Board of Directors is pleased to announce the return of our Harvest Dinner fundraiser. The date to save is Saturday, Oct. 23. The location is the Evans Center Fire Hall on Erie Road.

Cala’s Catering will be providing a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with a cash bar is available. Dinner will be served at 7.

In addition to a fine meal there will be a basket auction, a 50-50 drawing and a strolling violinist.

This fundraiser provides for many upgrades to our library. For example, please take a drive through the Village to see the beautiful new mural and identity sign on the outside wall.

Sons of Legion meet Tuesday

Sons of the American Legion Squadron 59 will be holding their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Post 59, 156 E Main St., Fredonia.

On the agenda will be plans for holding a Turkey Bingo fundraiser in November 2021.

The Sons of the American Legion, is an organization made up of male descendants from veterans of World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Military Operations of Lebanon, Grenada, Panama and from the Persian Gulf War/War on Terrorism. Members support programs in Veterans Rehabilitation, Children and Youth, Student Scholarships and Community Affairs. Membership now numbers nearly 30,000 within the Detachment of New York with over 350,00 members nationwide.

Meetings are held on the last Thursday of month at P59 at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in joining, please feel free to stop by Post 59.

Masks required for Workers Memorial event

The Chautauqua County Workers Memorial Committee will be holding its 20th Annual Workers Memorial Day on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. at the Chautauqua County Workers Memorial site at Erlandson Overview Park on Oak Hill Road in Frewsburg. Masks must be worn.
