EBC West to hold fundraiser for former server with cancer

Margaret “Meg” Wagner Maggitti

The restaurant EBC West, located at 34 West Main St., Fredonia, announces “A Keg for Meg” fundraiser on July 29, 30, and 31 to benefit a former server who is receiving treatment for an aggressive form of breast cancer. Margaret “Meg” Wagner Maggitti grew up in Fredonia and returned in 2008 after graduating from Ithaca College with a degree in Recreation Management. During that time, she held a position as a server at EBC West, where patrons enjoyed her sweet, sunny disposition and attention to detail. Also during this period of her life, she coached a girls travel soccer team for Northern Chautauqua Soccer Association, acted as skate-park supervisor for the Westfield Recreation Department, tended bar at the Firemen’s Club in Dunkirk, and taught snow-boarding lessons at Cockaigne Ski Area.

Eventually, Meg’s path led her to Asheville, NC, where she lived a healthy lifestyle, playing soccer year round, running a half-marathon, and eating a vegetarian diet. In an unexpected turn, at age 36, she was diagnosed in February 2022 with a rare triple-negative invasive carcinoma with papillary features. She immediately began a six-month course of chemotherapy at the Hope Women’s Cancer Center, and has been unable to continue working during this time. Her chemo treatments will be complete on July 18, after which she will undergo surgery in August, possibly followed by radiation treatments. Her oncologists are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to rid Meg of cancer!

Some of Meg’s family members continue to live in Western New York including her parents Andrew and Janey, sister Heidi, and brothers Wendell, Julius and Bismark. As part of the fundraiser, a vegetarian entree’ will be developed by EBC West chefs, using donated organic vegetables raised in Wendell’s garden at Maggitti Farm. A keg of EBC’s Blueberry-Wheat beer has been donated in honor of Meg (the “Meg Keg”) and will be served, with all proceeds to benefit Meg as she recovers from her cancer journey. A 50/50 raffle will be held each of the three days of the fund raiser. Meg and her family wish to express much gratitude for the support offered by our Northern Chautauqua community.

Starting at $3.50/week.
