LEAGUE EVENT FOCUSES ON UKRAINE WORK
The League of Women Voters of Chautauqua County will hold a Hot Topics brown bag luncheon at noon on Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church, 219 Central Ave, Fredonia, NY 14063. Besides your own lunch, please bring food donations for the church’s food pantry along with $2. Those who don’t want to bring food, please pay $5.
Sally Naetzker Baer was born and raised in Ashville. In her early 20s, Sally left the area to pursue academics in New York City where she stayed and worked for almost 20 years. She married Tom Baer in 2001. They spent the majority of the next 16 years between the USA, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, and Nepal working with community development, offering basic healthcare, teaching English, and participating in other grassroots activities.
In 2016 they moved to Sout Carolina to prepare for further service overseas. They had planned to relocate to Kazakhstan, but the pandemic had other ideas so Tom and Sally along with their three youngest children returned to their Chautauqua County home in October 2020. Next, when the war in Ukraine began last February, Sally was uniquely prepared to go to Poland and Ukraine to help in any way possible to support Ukraine. She will join the League of Women Voters to share her journey of service during this dark time for Ukraine.
This event is a great opportunity for members of the Chautauqua County community to learn about ways they can support Sally’s work in Ukraine. Donations can be made to their non-profit Baer Essentials, 1039 Hunt Rd., Lakewood, NY 14750 or by stopping by their 6 Baers Toy and Gift Shoppe at 50 Chautauqua Ave. in Lakewood. You can friend Sally Naetzker Baer on Facebook for more updates on her work in Ukraine.
