‘Living’ set for Opera House showings

Bill Nighy stars in the movie “Living.”

The next film in the Cinema Series at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center is “Living,” starring Bill Nighy. It will be screened Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Nominated for two Oscars including Best Actor for Nighy, “Living” is the story of an ordinary man (Nighy), reduced by years of oppressive office routine to a shadow existence, who at the eleventh hour makes a supreme effort to turn his dull life into something wonderful.

AV Club website calls the film “an artistically masterful one – a film that, while deceptively simple, may linger in your minds for years to come.” AARP Movies for Grown Ups calls it “a wise and moving drama – an existential journey that celebrates learning how to live life, in all its fleeting beauty.” ABC News says “Nighy delivers a master class in acting.” Fox News calls the film “magnetic, heartbreaking and utterly unforgettable.” Rated PG-13 for smoking and some suggestive material, “Living” runs one hour, 42 minutes.

Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. A book of 10 movie passes is available for $60 at the door or online at www.fredopera.org. For more information, call the Opera House Box Office at 716-679-1891.

The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member.

The Opera House Cinema Series is sponsored by Lake Shore Savings Bank. In addition, Opera House programming is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
