The Westfield Farmers’ & Artisans’ Market to hold preseason meeting May 11

WESTFIELD — The Westfield Farmers’ & Artisans’ Market will hold its preseason meeting on Thursday, May 11, at 7 p.m. in Eason Hall in Westfield.

The meeting is a chance to learn about vending at the market, meet the new market manager and the organizing committee, and to ask questions. Anyone interested in the market is invited to attend.

“The market grew larger than ever in 2022 with 67 registered vendors. Our attendance levels were way up too. We have a wait list for most of our categories, but we have a few openings too,” says Kate Mayer, chair of the Westfield Markets Organizing Committee. “We have seen increased interest in vending at the new Westfield Vintage Flea Market this spring. We are excited about this growing new segment for us.”

The Westfield Farmers’ & Artisans’ Market started 16 years ago in 2007 and has grown into a destination market drawing visitors from far away. Opening day for the market is May 27. It is a state-certified market meaning that food and artisan crafts must be grown and made locally. All vendors are reviewed by a juried committee to ensure quality, aesthetics, and compliance to state requirements. The market takes place in Moore Park under shade trees with live music in the gazebo and food trucks by the water fountain.

“We see several thousand visitors on Saturdays during the summer. We spend a good portion of our revenues on marketing which has made a huge difference. The market is a fantastic opportunity for farmers, growers, and makers. We hope to see a large turn out on May 11 for the preseason meeting.” says Blair Koss, a founding committee member and treasurer.

The Markets Committee also added a vintage flea market in 2021. It takes place next to the museum in another part of the park. The flea market doesn’t have the rigid rules and requirements that the state-certified market has.

“We encourage everyone to participate in the Westfield Flea. From micro businesses, antiques, clothing, yard sale items. It’s really anything goes as long as its family friendly,” said Staunzie Grady, market manager.
