Fired up for summer kickoff returns to Dunkirk

The City of Dunkirk and the Dunkirk Professional Firefighters Local 616 will host the Dunkirk Fire Department Firefighter Hose Race on June 9 at 6 p.m. at the Dunkirk Boardwalk Marketplace. The public is invited to attend the popular summer event.

Singer-songwriter Max Muscato and headliner In Crowd will perform for Dunkirk’s no-cost Music on the Pier Summer Concert Series on the Dunkirk Pier stage on Thursday to welcome their Fired Up For Summer Kickoff.

Sponsored by ImmunityBio, the Rhythm and Blues Night opening act of Muscato will start at 5:25 p.m. with In Crowd performing at 6:45 p.m. The concerts are presented by DFT Communications, Chautauqua Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and National Grid.

Muscato is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, producer and philanthropist. As a rock artist he brings electrifying performances to every show. Over the last several years, he has gained an extensive following and has toured and opened for Citizen Cope, Theory of a Deadman, Aaron Carter, Finger Eleven, Eric Gales, Ripe and more. In addition to his music career, he is also the founder of Rock Autism Music Festival and the creator/writer of the feature film Sonnyboy. The show is the truest depiction of their family dynamic while revealing the grind it takes to make it in the music industry.

Be prepared to be enthralled by In Crowd’s irresistible fusion of Latin soul, funk, rhythm and blues, psychedelic rock, and world music. Led by the married duo Angelo Valentino and Ylsa Maj, In Crowd casts a mesmerizing spell with their pure heartbeat rhythm section, dynamic horns, and captivating vocal stylings.

On Thursday pier concert dates, the pier will be closed to traffic at 2 p.m. Guests are reminded to bring a chair. Food trucks and other vendors will be on site along with the beverage tent provided by Arthur R Gren Company and Southern Tier Brewing Company.

The Dunkirk Boardwalk Marketplace will also be open. The City of Dunkirk and Dunkirk Professional Firefighters Local 616 will host the 2023 Dunkirk Firefighter Hose Race on Friday, June 9 starting at 6 p.m. by the Boardwalk. DJ Joe Gould will provide the tunes with the awards ceremony and The New Direction Band playing polka music on the pier stage at 7:45 p.m.

The event is open to the public with food/drink and gift specials from the boardwalk merchants. Children are encouraged to wear their bathing suits and bring towels for a fun hydrant sprinkler. The fire department will also have its new rescue boat on display.
