Outreach at Christmas

1 min read

For the fifth year in a row, St. John's United Church of Christ in Dunkirk has participated in Save a Christmas, a program of New Directions. This outreach provides Christmas presents for area children who are currently in foster care or live in at-risk homes. The church has volunteered to sponsor 10 children the last two years. Each child provides a Christmas list and the congregants either buy from the list or contribute money for a shopping trip at the end of the collection time. In the end, the children receive winter apparel and bedding as well as wish list items. New Directions Youth & Family Services, Inc. was formed in 1999 from a partnership between Wyndham Lawn Home for Children in Lockport and Randolph Children's Home in Randolph to help make a positive impact on youth throughout the eight counties of Western New York. Through a variety of services, New Directions is all about creating positive changes in youths and their families who may have emotional, behavioral, or educational issues.
