Junque & Disorderly Market event set for Sunday

The Junque & Disorderly Market will take place in Floral Hall at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds, 1089 Central Ave., Dunkirk.

Mark your calendars for the upcoming Junque & Disorderly Antiques, Toys & Collectibles Market.

On Sunday, the Junque & Disorderly Market will take place in Floral Hall at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds, 1089 Central Ave., Dunkirk. This will be a marketplace of quality antiques, vintage toys and collectibles. It is not your typical flea market. There won’t be garage sale leftovers or pallets of big box returns; just the quality merchandise you always hope to find.

With more than 60 booths, shop with vendors from the local area, but also from three different counties in Pennsylvania, four counties in Western New York and the province of Ontario. Some of what you’ll find include crocks, pottery, furniture, art, advertising, jewelry, vintage clothing and accessories, ephemera, antique tools, store displays, linens, glassware, clocks, pocket watches, pocket knives, militaria, postcards, books, primitives and oddities.

From the vintage toy vendors, you’ll find slot cars, model kits, dolls, Star Wars, lunch boxes, pressed steel trucks, pedal cars, farm toys and much more.

The market is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is just $3 and “Early Bird” admission (starts at 8:30) is $10.

Admission fees benefit the Dunkirk Historical Museum, which is located at 513 Washington Ave. The museum preserves the history of the area with a heavy concentration on the railroad industry.

Brooks Locomotive Company/American Locomotive Company (ALCO) have prominent displays at the museum and a prototypical display at the fairgrounds. The railroad display is just steps away from the Antiques Market. It features the Brooks/ALCO Boston & Maine Locomotive 444, Delaware & Hudson boxcar and New York Central caboose.

Other items include signs and signals, maintenance of way equipment, Erie Railway phone booth and a Nickel Plate Road section shanty. The display will be open to the public during the market from noon to 3 p.m. The silk industry was a staple in years gone by. The Van Raalte Co. produced premium silk lingerie, ladies slips and gloves, all of which are highly collectible in today’s antique market. During the war, they concentrated their silk efforts into producing parachutes for the cause. You may learn more when visiting the museum.

The museum is operated by volunteers and the current volunteer hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. Please call ahead at 716-366-3797. For information regarding the Antiques & Toys Market, 814-779-5553 or 716-969-2211.

Starting at $3.50/week.
