Events planned to showcase Silver Creek’s Festival of Grapes

SILVER CREEK -- The 59th annual Festival of Grapes in Silver Creek will feature a couple of events worth noting.

First is something special this year for the kids, a youth Pentathlon. It will be held at the Silver Creek Central School on Saturday, Sept. 12, the weekend before the Festival of Grapes. All area children within the ages 6 to 11, regardless of school district, are invited to participate.

There will be five events geared toward two age groups, 6-8, and 9-11. The contests will be in the following sports: Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Football, and Track. The event is scheduled to last about an hour and a half.

Registration for the Pentathlon will begin at 9:30 a.m., Sept. 12, and the games will start at 10 a.m. The registration form is available on the Festival website, www.festivalofgrapes.org. It is encouraged that the registration be printed out ahead of time and brought to the event already filled out to save time. Every participant must be registered to compete.

The second noteworthy event is geared towards the "Lucy Lovers" in the community. Because the beloved Lucille Ball came from our grape-growing area, and one of her most famous episodes of "I Love Lucy" included a hilarious grape stomping scene, this year's festival will invite all Lucy Lovers to enter a Lucy Lookalike contest.

The contest requires no pre-registration, just preparation. Dress up in your best Lucy costume, ready to compete for a chance to grape stomp, and come to the opening ceremonies, Thursday Sept. 17. Sign in at the Festival by 5 p.m. and receive a tag for judging.

The three best Lucies will be selected by audience response to compete against each other in a grape stomping competition, and the winner of that heat will be invited to be featured in the parade on Sunday, Sept. 20 as the 2026 Honorary Lucy.

Additional information on either of these events or other Festival questions is available online at www.festivalofgrapes.org, by emailing grapefestivalsc67@gmail.com, or by calling 716-679-8707.
