Author to speak Nov. 12 at Patterson Library

2 min read

The Patterson Library will host a special historical presentation by author Mary Ellen Humphrey at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. The discussion will focus on Mercy Otis Warren and her influential, multi-layered role before, during, and after the American Revolution, drawing from the author’s compelling book, "Corresponding With Marcia."

Warren was one of the most formidable political writers and propagandists of the Revolutionary era, utilizing her sharp wit and extensive correspondence to shape early American political thought. The presentation will explore her life, her amazing contributions to the fight for independence, and her enduring legacy as a historian of the Revolution.

“Mercy Otis Warren’s voice was vital to the foundation of American liberty, yet her full impact is often left in the shadows of the Founding Fathers,” said Mary Ellen Humphrey, author of Corresponding With Marcia. “This presentation aims to reveal her brilliant role in the Boston Tea Party, and the adoption of the Bill of Rights to our constitution, and much more. We've heard history. This is her story.”

The event is free and open to the public. It will take place in the community room at the Patterson Library, located at 40 S Portage St, Westfield, NY 14787.

For more information about the event or to reserve a seat, please visit the Patterson Library website atpattersonlib.org or call (716) 326-2154.

Humphrey is an author and educator. "Corresponding With Marcia" is the culmination of extensive research into the personal works and political influence of this woman during the American Revolution.
