Fredonia Constellation Concerts series begins Friday

The Reverend Sean Duggan will perform J.S. Bach for solo piano at the first installment of the new Fredonia Constellation Concerts series on Friday at 8 p.m.

The Fredonia School of Music launches a new performance initiative, Fredonia Constellation Concerts: Aligning Fredonia’s Brightest Stars, on Friday, Jan. 27 at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. Developed especially for prospective students and their families, the concerts take place the night before each audition day of the season and feature a broad range of faculty and student performers.

The Jan. 27 concert features the Reverend Sean Duggan performing Bach for solo piano, bassoonist Jamie Sampson performing one of her original compositions, Kay Stonefelt, Nathaniel Boyer, Steven Lowe, and Tom Kohnen performing Three Movements from Postludes for Bowed Vibraphone/Four Players by Elliot Cole, violist David Rose performing J.S. Bach’s Sonata in G minor BWV 1029 with the Reverend Sean Duggan, Roderick Macdonald (trumpet) performing silent movie music from Charlie Chaplin’s “The Circus” with pianist James Welch, and the Fredonia Saxophone Ensemble performing Holst’s Jupiter from The Planets.

“Each concert offers a unique perspective of the School of Music,” commented Natasha Farny, cello professor and co-coordinator of the series.

“Prospective students and their parents will hear School of Music faculty and students perform, and meet them afterwards to have any questions answered. It’s another way for students to get a realistic idea of what it would be like to study music at Fredonia.” Dr. Farny coordinated the series with saxophone professor, Dr. Wildy Zumwalt.

The Friday evening concerts continue on Feb. 3, Feb. 17, and Feb. 24. All concerts are free, are less than an hour in length, and the community is encouraged to attend.

Starting at $3.50/week.
