A Star Wars story
Fredonia Opera House to show ‘Rogue One’
The next feature film in the Opera House Cinema Series is the blockbuster hit “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” It will be screened on Saturday, April 1, and Tuesday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m.
“This film comes out on DVD on Tuesday, the day of our second screening,” notes Opera House Executive Director Rick Davis. “But this is a movie that should be seen on the big screen; so come see it before it leaves the theatres!”
The first of the Star Wars standalone films, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” is an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
Chris Klimek, on NPR, calls the film “a tense, well-made spacefaring war movie about a desperate and demoralized band of insurgents standing up against a rising authoritarian regime.” The Chicago Sun Times’ Richard Roeper calls it “a bright light in the Star Wars canon.” Lindsey Bahr, in the Associated Press, calls it “a bold and stirring adventure film that will have both fans and casual observers spellbound.” Jim Berardinelli, in ReelViews, says the film “was always one of 2016’s most anticipated films and it doesn’t let down the legions who have been waiting for it.” Sara Stewart, in the New York Post, says “‘Rogue One’ is definitive proof: ‘Star Wars’ is back, baby.” Rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi violence and action, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” runs two hours, 13 minutes.
The Opera House Cinema Series is sponsored by Lake Shore Savings Bank. Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening.
