Artist Cynthia Norton, wearable fiber, is one of 20 artists participating in this year’s Art Trail, which takes place May 26-27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Her studio is located at 14 Whittier Ave., Chautauqua.
“As the Art Trail approaches, I’m working on what I always work on–how to go someplace I haven’t been before. Not so easy. For one thing, I’m working on expanding my color palette, starting with a lack of browns. I aim to create clothing that harmonizes with the wearer. People usually look good in colors that pick up their eye color. Many people have beautiful brown eyes and often don’t realize how the right brown can enhance their eyes. I’m looking for color that is brilliant and yet soft and luminous. I’m thinking about pattern and how I do the hand-painted lines on the fabrics I use — looking for how to make patterns vibrate in new ways that give life to the wearer without being overwhelming,” she said.
