Bass Fest 2019 to feature SUNY Fredonia assistant professor

Kieran Hanlon

State University of New York at Fredonia Assistant Professor Kieran Hanlon and the Fredonia Bass Studio are hosting Bass Fest 2019 this Sunday in the School of Music.

Professional players, college students, high school students, teachers and adult learners will join together for a day of performances and classes presented by Mr. Hanlon and world-class guests.

Guest artists include Joel Quarrington, principal bass of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and guest principal bass of the London Symphony, and Ralphe Armstrong, described by Hanlon as an “international jazz bass superstar.”

Registration is $40 for the day’s activities and should be done online at https://secure.touchnet.com/C21465_ustores/web/classic/store_main.jsp?STOREID=37&SINGLESTORE=true

The finals of the fourth annual high school solo competition will be held in the morning in Rosch Recital Hall, with opportunities for networking and bass fellowship during the day. The Double Bass Solo Competition aims to offer an opportunity for young players from the region and beyond to compete in front of a panel of Bass Fest faculty. Prizes will be awarded, and competitors will have the opportunity to obtain comments and feedback from the panel. The competition winner will be invited to perform a solo piece in the evening concert at Bass Fest alongside faculty performers. The first round of the competition was a recorded round submitted by players in mid-January.
