Harmonia to perform Friday, Saturday

BUFFALO — When Harmonia Chamber Singers performs its final concert series of this season, the Zogaib name will be listed in the program twice.

The Harmonia Chamber Singers will perform A British Choral Tapestry, Friday, May 17, 7:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 21 Church St. in Lockport, and Sunday, May 19, 4 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 724 Delaware Ave. in Buffalo.

Father Norm Zogaib is Harmonia’s music director. Son Michael, a scholarship student at the Cleveland Institute of Music, will accompany the group on double bass on two pieces.

The program will feature choral works from some classic British composers including Ralph Vaughan Williams, Orlando Gibbons, and John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

Michael will join pianist Nick Weiser, assistant professor at SUNY Fredonia School of Music to accompany Harmonia on “In Windsor Forest,” a cantata based on Ralph Vaughan Williams’ opera Sir John in Love, and Weiser John Rutter’s Birthday Madricals for piano and double bass which were composed for jazz pianist George Shearing.

Tickets are $15 and are available online at www.harmoniacs.org or at the door one hour before each performance.
