The 1891 Fredonia Opera House will present “The Prado Museum — A Collection of Wonders,” a special cinematic exploration of the treasured Madrid museum, on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. as part of its Art & Architecture On Screen Series.

“The Prado Museum: A Collection of Wonders” celebrates the 200th anniversary of the storied Prado Museum — one of the most-visited museums in the world.

Hosted by Academy Award-winner Jeremy Irons, this cinematic journey offers viewers a spell-binding experience, telling the story of Spain and beyond, through the works of Velazquez, Rubens, Titian, Mantegna, Bosch, Goya, El Greco and more.

It is a tour through the museum’s rooms, stories and emotions on a discovery of a heritage of beauty and art. The museum’s wealth of more than 8000 art treasures draws almost 3 million visitors to Madrid every year.

Its collection tells the story of kings, queens, dynasties, wars, defeats and victories, as well as the story of the feelings and emotions of the men and women of yesteryear and of today, whose lives are intertwined with the museum’s: rulers, painters, artists, architects, collectors, curators, intellectuals, and visitors.

The production runs approximately one hour, 30 minutes.

Individual tickets to “The Prado Museum — A Collection of Wonders “are $15, ($10 students). A special flexible subscription of eight tickets that can be used however you want – one at a time to eight different events, all at once for eight people, or anything in between — is $116. Tickets may be purchased in person at the Opera House Box Office or by phone at 679-1891, Tuesday-Friday, 1-5 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online anytime at www.fredopera.org.

Support for Opera House programming comes from the United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House is a member-supported not-for-profit organization located in Village Hall in downtown Fredonia. For a complete schedule of events, visit www.fredopera.org.
