Guided Year’s End Hike at Audubon Friday, December 31

Submitted photo Before the New Year’s Eve celebrations begin, relish some peaceful moments in the outdoors on a mid-morning guided walk at Audubon Community Nature Center, Friday, December 31.

The public is invited to join an Audubon Community Nature Center educator for a winter walk on the last day of the year, Friday, Dec. 31, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Learn more about the plants and animals that are continuing to prepare for the coming winter months and explore Audubon’s trails. Use senses to observe what is happening in nature, all while taking advantage of the opportunity to search for peaceful moments in the outdoors on a mid-morning walk.

Be sure to dress for the weather. This event will be canceled if the weather is severe. Face coverings are not required for outdoor activities. While donations are appreciated, the walk is free of charge.

Participation is limited to 20. Reservations are requested by Wednesday. To reserve a space, call the Nature Center during open hours at 569-2345 or go to AudubonCNC.org and click through “Upcoming Programs.”

Walk-ins are accepted if there is room.

Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. View the grounds, with its six miles of trails, and view Liberty, Audubon’s non-releasable Bald Eagle, dawn to dusk daily, free of charge.

The three-story Nature Center building houses interactive displays, a collection of live animals including the new Hellbender exhibit, and the Blue Heron Gift Shop. Visitors are welcome Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays, 1 to 4:30 p.m. Nature Center members receive free building admission daily, and building admission is free every Sunday for non-Nature Center members as well.

The building will be closed on Christmas Eve and Day and New Year’s Day.
