January children’s programming underway at Patterson Library

WESTFIELD — Events are already underway in a jam-packed month of children’s events at the Patterson Library!

Maker Space Mondays continue on, with teens and kids invited to come in after school and learn how to use our Silhouette Cameo 4 paper cutter. Use it to make cool paper crafts, decorations, and more! A special Maker Space Monday will be taking place on Jan. 24 in which kids can come and assemble a simple but effective DIY air filter!

Come and assemble box forts and other creations today, Jan. 5 from 4-5:30 p.m. The library bought special tools specifically for working with cardboard. Teens are welcome to build forts and other hiding places for playing hide and seek in the dark during Teen Night the following week.

Jan. 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. is the first Teen Night of the year! Come play hide and seek in the dark! If you want an extra edge, come to Box Fort Day the previous Wednesday and build your own hiding spots. It will be safe for you until Teen Night.

Need help with Spanish homework? Simply interested in learning the language and want to hang out with those who have similar interests and goals? Spanish Club will be meeting every Thursday at 4 p.m. in the library. In addition, a special Patterson Park Story Time for those ages 2-5 will take place on Jan. 21 at 10:45 a.m. in which the stories will be told bilingually.

Brand new to Patterson Library is the Anime Club! Every second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m., the library will host a viewing of anime in the Children’s Area in the library. In addition, sketchbooks and a special “anime bingo” will be provided for additional entertainment.

Teen Dungeons and Dragons is still accepting new players, so sign up on the library’s website to join in the fantasy fun! Attendees meet up every second Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m., and it is open to those 13 to 18 years of age. All levels of experience are welcome.

Come for some Super Smash Bros Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch on Jan. 18 at 4 p.m. The winner of the tournament will get a prize. This event is for at kids and teens under 18, and no worries — younger children will have an opportunity for prizes as well.

Tween Book Club for ages 8-12 and an accompanying adult is held on the fourth Wednesday of every month. Come for fun discussion, activities, and snacks! The chosen book for January will be “Flora and Ulysses” by Kate DiCamillo. Please sign-up for the club at pattersonlib.org or at the library. Books are available at the children’s desk.

Littles Story Time (ages 0-2) will take place on Jan. 14 and 28 at 10 a.m..Patterson Park Story Time (ages 2-5) will be on Jan. 14, 21, and 28 at 10:45 a.m. On Jan. 14, the theme of the books will be “space,” on Jan. 21 the books will be bilingual with both Spanish and English, and on Jan. 28 the books will be themed to “colors.”
