City of Dunkirk sets final summer entertainment events

Nerds Gone Wild is the headliner tonight at Memorial Park

The city of Dunkirk Festivals and Special Events department announces the final week of summer events on the shores of Lake Erie.

The Music on the Pier Summer Concert Series last concert will take place tonight at 5:25 p.m. in Memorial Park sponsored by Nestle Purina. The opening band is Yachtfathers followed by popular headliner Nerds Gone Wild.

Dunkirk’s summer season of events is sponsored by platinum level donors DFT Communications and Chautauqua Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. National Grid is the overall stage sponsor while Advanced Production Group is the stage and sound provider.

The Yachtfathers are Western New York’s premier yacht rock tribute, playing the best in AM Gold and soft rock hits from the ’70s and ’80s.

Nerds Gone Wild is Western New York’s premier party band and award-winning ’80s show, playing your favorite New Wave and Classic ’80’s hits!

A tent, donated by G&E Tents, will be available to the National Walleye Tour anglers and their guests to enjoy the park concert.

On Friday evening for Music on the Boardwalk sponsored by Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union, Footsteps will take the stage for the final boardwalk performance this summer.

Off the Hook, a Dunkirk boardwalk seafood restaurant, will host a Lobster Fest event on Saturday, August 29 starting at 12 noon in Memorial Park. Music performances will be provided by Krossbones (2 p.m.), For The People (5:15 p.m.), and Autumnwood (8 p.m.). Meal tickets are $50 and can be purchased by visiting Off the Hook.

The Back to School Bash is scheduled for Monday, August 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. (with a rain date of August 31) at Point Gratiot. The event is presented by the City of Dunkirk, Dunkirk Public Schools and United Way of Northern Chautauqua County and sponsored by National Grid, DFT Communications, Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union, Wal-Mart, Dunkirk/Fredonia Rotary Club and Refresco. Marty’s Bubblegum Machine will be present to provide tunes and children’s entertainment.

Pancho Billa book bags loaded with school supplies will be given to the first 300 children registered that afternoon. A no-cost scavenger hunt drawing for a children’s bike donated by Walmart, will also take place. Marty’s Bubblegum Machine will provide entertainment in addition to a bounce house and balloon twisting clown. Complimentary hot dogs, refreshments and snacks will be served.
