SOUTH DAYTON — The Pine Valley High School Drama Club will present the school musical, “Little Women” on Friday and Saturday.

Based on Louisa May Alcott’s classic American novel, the musical features notable songs like “Astonishing,” the full cast number “Weekly Volcano Press,” and the showstopping “Somethings Are Meant To Be.”

“Even though we are telling a familiar story, we are putting our own unique spin on it. The students have a unique vision and are bringing new life to the story and the lessons it conveys,” co-director Allison Mullin said.

The performance features 28 Pine Valley students in the cast and crew and many staff members and volunteers. Auditions took place in December, and the cast started practicing in January.

“We have a type of family camaraderie in every show, but that has especially been highlighted in ‘Little Women.’ It is a show about family, and the students have formed strong bonds as friends and peers. It is amazing to witness,” co-director Mary Kay Himes said.

This year’s musical stars Molly Sunick as Jo, Arryanna Bardo as Meg, Grace Pfleuger as Amy, Muriel Zollinger as Beth, Fred Roland as Laurie, Brandon Yoris as Professor Bhaer and Kristal Ramirez as Marmee.

Pine Valley is one of 10 finalists for the 2023 Kenny Awards. The Kenny Awards recognizes, rewards, and encourages student talent and achievement in high school musical theatre productions in western New York.

“Our students are excited to present this production that they have poured their heart and soul into. From the t-shirt design to the choreography, the set design to the final musical number, the students have been involved every step of the way. Please consider coming out to support our students’ passion and enjoy an incredible show,” Himes said.

The show starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Pine Valley High School auditorium. Tickets are available online until March 23 at pine-valley-drama-club.ticketleap.com/little-women, $8 for adults and $5 for students (plus tax). Tickets will be available at the door, $10 for adults and $6 for students (cash only).
