next film in the Cinema Series at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center is “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” starring Harrison Ford. The fifth and final film in the Indiana Jones franchise, it will be screened on Saturday, Aug. 5, and Tuesday, Aug. 8, at 7:30 p.m.
Finding himself in a new era, and approaching retirement, Indiana Jones (Ford) wrestles with fitting into a world that seems to have outgrown him. But as the tentacles of an all-too-familiar evil return in the form of an old rival, Indy must don his hat and pick up his whip once more to make sure an ancient and powerful artifact doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.
The San Jose Mercury News calls the film “a fitting tribute and poignant finale to one of the screen’s most iconic characters.” Entertainment Weekly calls it “a rip-roaring adventure that borrows more from the cinematic language of golden age swashbucklers than modern blockbusters.” AARP Movies for Grownups calls it “faithful to the original story while retaining the zest of the action-adventure serials of the first half of the 20th century that inspired the modern masterpiece of inspired, breathless fun.” ABC News says, “Harrison Ford – 80 and still working deep and true – makes sure that Indy goes out in blaze of glory. One word: Respect.” Rated PG-13 for sequences of violence and action, language and smoking, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” runs two hours, 22 minutes.
Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. A book of 10 movie passes is available for $60 at the door or online at www.fredopera.org. For more information, call the Opera House Box Office at 716-679-1891.
