The Probables, Smilo and the Ghost play at Pier
The City of Dunkirk’s Music on the Pier Summer Concert Series roots rock night is tonight on the Dunkirk Pier. Formed in 2016, Smilo and the Ghost have been delivering hard-driving, old-time influenced folk-rock to crowds around the Northeast. Their debut album, Ghost Writers, was voted one of the “Top Three Albums of 2018” by the Erie Reader. Since then, Smilo and the Ghost have opened for national acts like Grammy Award Winning country duo Dan + Shay and alt-rock legends 10,000 Maniacs. The band’s recording and performing personnel have included a “who’s who” of regional talent, currently condensed down to the core lineup of Tyler Smilo (Guitar, Vocals), Adam McKillip (Mandolin, Vocals), Jassen Wilber (Bass Guitar) and Dominick DeCecco (Banjo, Vocals). The Probables are a rhythm driven, folkcana roots rock band from Jamestown, New York. The band formed in March of 2016 and hit the ground running by releasing their EP in July of the same year. Their follow-up release, Cumberland Line brought to fruition in June 2018 expanded their music scope. With influences of Americana, Folk, Contemporary, Bluegrass and Rock, The Probables result was a fusion of a unique blend. ? The Probables consist of five members Steve Johnson (Lead Singer, Acoustic Guitar), Matt Gronquist (Accordion, Fiddle, Vocals), Adam McKillip ( Mandolin), Ryan Eckland (Bass) and Nick Campbell (Drums) to complete to sound. The group’s distinctive name was decided upon during a booking exchange with the organizer of the annual Great Blue Heron Music Festival in Sherman, NY. The band had not yet chosen a name when they expressed interest in making a debut at the annual festival. The organizer of the festival, responded, “I’ll probably book you, so I guess we should just call you “The Probables”. The rest is history. On Thursday pier concert dates, the pier will be closed to traffic at 2 p.m. Guests are reminded to bring a chair. Food trucks and other vendors will be on site along with the beverage tent provided by Arthur R Gren Company and Southern Tier Brewing Company. The Dunkirk Boardwalk Marketplace will also be open. The July 6 canceled show is rescheduled with Sean Patrick McGraw on Thursday, Aug. 31 from 5:25 to 8:45 p.m. For more information about Dunkirk’s summer schedule of events or local attractions, please visit www.cityofdunkirk.com or Facebook at Dunkirk Festivals & Special Events or call Ryan Hall at (716) 366-9886.
