Opera House presents Broadway star Eden Espinosa

Broadway star Eden Espinosa, who portrayed Elphaba in “Wicked” on Broadway, will perform at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Friday night.
The 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center is thrilled to present Broadway Star Eden Espinosa live in concert on Friday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in a very special concert of music from Broadway, the Great American Songbook, and some of her own original works.
“This is an exciting opportunity for people to hear such a talented artist,” notes Opera House Executive Director Rick Davis. “Eden currently is in rehearsal for a new musical which will preview next month at the Lincoln Center Theatre in New York; and she very graciously carved out time from that schedule to come to the Opera House for this event.”
Espinosa also will work with selected musical theatre students in a master class setting earlier in the day. The class is open to the public with free admission at 2 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall on the campus of the State University of New York at Fredonia.
The Broadway veteran is most recognized for her critically acclaimed portrayal of Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway and in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Other Broadway credits include originating the title character in BKLYN the Musical, Flora in Flora the Red Menace, and Maureen in the closing company of Rent.
She also originated the role of Sadie Thompson in the world premiere of Rain at the Old Globe Theater; and, she portrayed Eva Peron in TPAC and Studio Tenn’s production of Evita. She most recently played Marie Celia in Two Sisters and a Piano, directed by Pulitzer Prize-winner Nilo Cruz, at Two River Theatre.

In 2017 she toured Denmark and London playing Emma Borden in the rock musical Lizzie. She played Mary Flynn to rave reviews in Maria Freidman’s production of Merrily We Roll Along at the Huntington Theatre in Boston. Esipnosa was Daniela in the Kennedy Center’s In The Heights. She also portrayed Anita in West Side Story for the BBC PROMS at the Royal Albert Hall. Recently, she originated the role of Tamara De Lempicka in the world premiere of Lempicka at Williamstown Theatre Festival, directed by Rachel Chavkin. She appeared in the US tour of Falsettos in 2019.
Her television appearances include shows such as Law and Order, Ugly Betty, and Elementary. Voiceover credits include Cassandra in the Disney Channel’s Tangled the Series, Robot Chicken, MAD TV, Elena of Avalor, and Titan Maximum.
Espinosa’s debut album, “Look Around,” charted in the Pop iTunes Top 50 between Adele and Katy Perry. Her second album, “Revelation,” was released in 2019.
This event is part of the DFT Communications Spotlight Series at the Opera House.
