‘Theater Camp’ to be shown at Opera House

“Theater Camp” to be screened on Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Fredonia Opera House.

The next film in the Cinema Series at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center is the mockumentary comedy, “Theater Camp.” It will be screened on Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Tony Award winner Ben Platt and Molly Gordon star in this new original comedy as Amos and Rebecca-Diane – lifelong best friends and drama instructors at a rundown camp in upstate New York. When clueless tech-bro Troy (Jimmy Tatro) arrives to run the property (into the ground), Amos, Rebecca-Diane and production manager Glenn (Noah Galvin) band together with the staff and students to stage a masterpiece, and keep their beloved summer camp afloat.

The Tribune News Service calls the film “a fine-cut comedic gem engineered with the chops to become a beloved camp classic.” RogerEbert.com calls it “a lovingly curated collection of approximately a thousand jokes about theater kids.” New York Magazine calls it “a celebration of dorks, divas, and devotion to one’s art.” The Washington Post says the film’s “eccentric world of show tunes and show people is big enough (and funny enough) for everyone.” Rated PG-13 for some strong language and suggestive drug references, “Theater Camp” runs one hour, 34 minutes.

Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. A book of 10 movie passes is available for $60 at the door or online at www.fredopera.org. For more information, call the Opera House Box Office at 716-679-1891.

The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member.
