SINCLAIRVILLE - The Sinclairville Free Library announces that local author Clark Zlotchew will present a reading of selected material, both poetry and fiction, from his published works at the library on Monday at 6 p.m. The author will talk about his books and answer questions about his writing and publishing journey. A man with a tortured psyche keeps a pink teddy bear on his food tray as he watches the Olympics on TV; the reader gradually realizes why. A waitress in New Jersey puts a curse on a sailor; his behavior becomes increasingly irrational. Two shipmates - one white, one black--learn firsthand about segregation in 1950s Savannah. A timid adolescent boy suffers the pangs of unrequited love. An academic meets Jorge Luis Borges and uncovers the mystery of an American writer with three different names. These are a few of the premises of some of Zlotchew's stories.
Zlotchew is the author of 19 published books, only five of which consist of his fiction: two espionage/thriller novels and three collections of his short stories, one of which is an award winner. Newer work of his of Fiction, Non-Fiction and Poetry has appeared in Crossways Literary Magazine, Baily's Beads, Scrutiny Journal, The Fictional Café and many other literary journals in the U.S., Australia, U.K., Germany, South Africa, Sweden, India, Nigeria, and Ireland from 2016 through 2022. Zlotchew's Spanish versions of his stories had been published in Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico and the state of Colorado in the 1980s and 1990s. Dr. Zlotchew is SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor of Spanish Emeritus at SUNY Fredonia.
