Cinema Series presents ‘Immediate Family’

“Immediate Family.” It will be screened Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

The Cinema Series at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center continues with the rock’n roll documentary “Immediate Family.” It will be screened Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

With a rare 100% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this documentary follows the work and lives of legendary 1970s session musicians who were featured on some of the most iconic recordings of the era. Directed by Denny Tedesco, whose documentary “The Wrecking Crew” followed the first wave of studio musicians in the 60s, “Immediate Family” reveals the machinery behind four of the greatest session musicians of the ’70s – Russ, Kunkel, Leland Sklar, Danny Kortchmar and Waddy Wachtel.

The Hollywood Reporter calls the film “an affectionate and insightful group portrait and a sweet jolt of nostalgia for boomers – but more than that, it’s time well spent with delightful subjects who played crucial roles in shaping the popular music of a ground-shifting era.” The Chicago Sun Times calls it “a fantastic array of archival clips, and testimonies from the likes of Phil Collins, Carole King, Don Henley, Keith Richards, the late David Crosby, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young and Jackson Browne.” Critic Anne Brodie calls it “a joyous celebration of the art and creation of rock, and of the unassuming four men who are still at it.” Unrated, “Immediate Family” runs one hour, 42 mins.

Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member.

The Opera House Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Lake Shore Savings Bank. In addition, Opera House programming is made possible by the United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center is a member-supported not-for-profit performing arts center with a mission to “present the performing arts for the benefit of our community and region … providing access to artistic diversity … and high quality programming at an affordable price.” It is located in Village Hall in downtown Fredonia.
