Celebration of the Arts honors set for Sunday

Chautauqua County artists and organizations are being honored at the Celebration of the Arts at the Palmer Opera House in Cuba on Sunday.

Debra Eck of Chautauqua County is the winner of the Excellence in Arts Education. This award honors an arts educator from each county for their work in providing art instruction that helps to guide the next generation of artists in our region and cultivating lifelong supporters of the arts.

Marcia Merrins of Chautauqua County is being recognized with the Volunteer of the Year Award. Many of the region’s arts and cultural organizations rely on volunteers to put on the show! This award recognizes the outstanding volunteer efforts of an unpaid individual or group that has had a major impact on the arts and culture sector.

Sukanya Burman Dance is the County Program of the Year. This award honors the achievement, dedication, and creativity of an individual or organization from each county.

In addition, the Thomas Barnes Lifetime Achievement, named after longtime Arts Council board president, honor is going to Carson Waterman of Salamanca and the Distinguished Artist of the Year for 2023 is Laurie Donner of Allegany.

Celebration of the Arts will be held Sunday at the Palmer Opera House at 12 W. Main St., Cuba, beginning at 4 p.m. Tickets for the Celebration Of The Arts are still available for $45 each, or two for $80.
