Opera House to present recital of SUNY Fredonia students

The Fredonia Young Artists Recital will take place for free on Thursday, April 24, at 5:30 p.m. at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center has partnered with the State University of New York at Fredonia’s School of Music to present a special free admission recital featuring some of the most talented young artists studying there on Thursday, April 24, at 5:30 p.m.

This recital is part of a concert initiative created by Dr. Eliran Avni that provides students the opportunity to perform in off-campus venues to a wider audience. Concerts typically feature solo and small ensemble performances of music by both classical and contemporary composers. Concerts are 60 minutes long and provide an opportunity to hear some of our area’s incredible emerging artists.

“I’m always in awe at the level of talent shown by the young artists who perform in these concerts,” notes Opera House Executive Director Rick Davis. “Although I shouldn’t be … Fredonia’s School of Music has a stellar reputation, with a long list of graduates who go on to absolutely amazing careers.”

Past programs have featured music by J.S. Bach, Chopin, Mozart, Poulenc, Schubert, and Strauss, among others, as well as more contemporary composers such as Amy Beach and Jennifer Higdon. Admission is free, although donations are gratefully accepted.

Opera House programming is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and by the United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center is a member-supported not-for-profit performing arts center with a mission to “present the performing arts for the benefit of our community and region … providing access to artistic diversity … and high-quality programming at an affordable price.” It is located in Village Hall in downtown Fredonia.
