The Breeze, The Untouchables start off Music on the Pier series

The City of Dunkirk’s Music on the Pier Summer Concert Series starts this week, Thursday at the Dunkirk Pier. The concerts are presented by Dunkirk Festivals, APG, Van Buren Drive-In, National Grid, stage sponsor DFT Communications and Piede Tents, LLC.

The Dunkirk Pier will close at 2 p.m. on Thursday until the following morning for cleanup. This season, music will start a half an hour later at 6 p.m. to better accommodate the community.

Soul Night, sponsored by Brooks-TLC Hospital System, Inc. – Lake Erie Medical Services and The Resource Center, will open with The Breeze from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and headliner The Untouchables hitting the stage from 7:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.

The Breeze is a high energy, 9-piece, premier R&B, soul and funk band in the tri-state area that has dazzled crowds for over two decades. The band plays soulful classics from the 1960’s to current hits by artists such as Earth Wind and Fire, Prince, Bruno Mars and many more. The Breeze has opened for legendary bands including Kool and the Gang, Average White Band and The Ohio Players. Members include Rasia Crockett, Pam Davis, Kenny Hollis, Clarence Jennings, Kevin Sapper and Mo Troop.

The Untouchables, a local favorite band, is made up of Bill Schindler (drums/vocals), Billy Lisa (guitar, harmonica, vocals), Mike Dietzen (bass/vocals), Jeff Julian (saxophone, guitar, and vocals) and Ian Hill (keyboards/vocals). For the past three decades, The Untouchables have been entertaining audiences throughout Western New York and Pennsylvania with a blend of rhythm and blues, oldies rock and roll, classic soul and a wide range of other musical styles.

The Breeze will be the opening band for Dunkirk’s Music on the Pier Summer Concert Series on Thursday, June 12 at the Dunkirk Pier for Soul Night. Notable venues include the Dunkirk Music on the Pier series and return engagements at the Ellicottville Jazz and Blues Festival and the National Comedy Center, opening for Lewis Black, Margaret Cho, and Taylor Tomlinson.

This multi-instrumental group delivers a high-energy performance designed to get the crowd onto the dance floor and keep them there. All of the band members interact constantly with the crowd in a show that’s entertaining and fun, combined with a sound that’s both soulful and powerful.

Guests are reminded to bring a chair. Food trucks and other vendors will be on site along with the city’s beverage tent. The Dunkirk Boardwalk Marketplace and surrounding businesses will also be open with food, drink and merchandise options.
