Opera House to screen ‘Materialists’

“Materialists” will be shown Saturday and Tuesday nights at the Fredonia Opera House. The Tuesday night showing will include captions.
The Cinema Series continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center with screenings of “Materialists,” starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans, on Saturday, July 26, and Tuesday, July 29, at 7:30 p.m. The Tuesday night screening will be shown with captions visible on the screen.
In “Materialists,” a young ambitious New York City matchmaker’s (Johnson) lucrative business gets complicated as she finds herself torn between the perfect match (Pascal) and her imperfect ex (Evans).
Newsday calls the film “sparkling, smart and sophisticated – finally, a rom-com for intelligent adults.” The New York Times calls it “a seductive, smartly refreshed addition to an impossibly old-fashioned genre that was once a Hollywood staple.” The Hollywood Reporter calls it “a refreshingly complex look at modern love, self-worth and the challenges of finding a partner in an unaffordable city.” Rated R for language and brief sexual material, “Materialists” runs one hour, 56 minutes.
Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member. The Opera House Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Lake Shore Savings.
