Opera House Cinema Series to screen F1

The Cinema Series continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center with screenings of “F1,” starring Brad Pitt, Saturday, Aug. 16, and Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 7:30 p.m. The Tuesday night screening will be shown with captions visible on the screen.

Dubbed “the greatest that never was,” Sonny Hayes (Pitt) was Formula 1’s most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem) to come back to Formula 1 for one last shot at being the best in the world.

The Los Angeles Times calls the film “muscular and thrilling and zippy.” RogerEbert.com calls it “exactly what summer blockbusters are supposed to be, exciting, romantic, funny, glamorous, and purely entertaining.” The Arizona Republic says “Pitt’s performance is leathery, lived-in. He takes what could have been a clichéd role, and adds some soul.” The Wall Street Journal adds “summer is a great time for some vroom and zoom.” Rated PG-13 for strong language and action, “F1” runs two hours, 35 minutes.

Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member. The Opera House Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Lake Shore Bank.
