‘Musical Images’ concert set for Sunday

The Western New York Chamber Orchestra opens its 2025-26 season on Sept. 28 with “Musical Images,” a concert program featuring the Fredonia Chamber Choir.
The Western New York Chamber Orchestra will be joined by the Fredonia Chamber Choir for its opening concert in September.
WNYCO, under Artistic Director/Conductor Glen Cortese, presents “Musical Images” on Sunday at 3 p.m. in King Concert Hall at the State University of New York at Fredonia.
Tickets are available online 24/7 at fredonia.edu/tickets. Tickets may also be purchased on Monday, Wednesday or Friday by phone at 716-673-3501 or in person at the Campus Ticket Office in the Williams Center during the same hours.
The orchestra will be joined by the Fredonia Chamber Choir prepared by Dr. Vernon Huff, who is director of Choral Studies at Fredonia, for composer John Corigliano’s “Fern Hill.” The piece will also feature vocal soloist Ashley Zielezinski, mezzo-soprano. Zielezinski, from Buffalo, is a master’s degree student in Music Performance at SUNY Fredonia with a focus in Choral Conducting.
Also included in the concert program are “Clair de lune” by Claude Debussy and “Pavane pour une infante défunte” by Maurice Ravel, both arranged by Conductor Cortese, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony 29 in A major K. 201.
“My hope is that our audience is able not only to hear the incredibly beautiful arrangements of the French pieces by our very own Artistic Director and Conductor Glen Cortese, but to further appreciate and support our continued efforts to provide the Fredonia School of Music students with a professional experience in performance,” WNYCO Executive Director Lisa Layman said.
The Western New York Chamber Orchestra is an ensemble-in-residence at the Fredonia School of Music.
“Musical Images” is presented as part of the 2025-26 Lake Shore Bank Season at the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center.
