Community Choir plans fall concert Sunday

Fredonia Community Choir presents its annual fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Main Street Studios, 50 W. Main St., Fredonia.

This year’s work is widely considered one of the greatest works of contemporary choral music: Annelies is composed by James Whitbourn. Librettist Melanie Challenger uses the words of Anne Frank’s diary to tell the story of Anne from before she went into hiding through her time in the Annex to their discovery and removal to the concentration camp. As with the diary this piece ends with hope.

The choir is directed by Phillip McMullen and will be accompanied by pianist Nathaniel Lucas and clarinetist Dr. Kaitlin Gelsinger with guest soloist Dr. Aurora Deeds.

Fredonia Community Choir is celebrating its 10th anniversary and is composed of singers of all ages: high school, college, those still in the workforce, and those retired but the joy of making beautiful music together unites them all. Singers are from Fredonia, Brocton, Westfield, Jamestown, Dunkirk, Silver Creek and Hamburg.

This is a non-profit group under the Play on Arts umbrella whose only source of funding is grants and donations. Concerts are free and there is an opportunity to make a freewill offering.

Starting at $3.50/week.
