The 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center will present the iconic actress Imelda Staunton in Mrs. Warren’s Profession, captured live via satellite from London’s National Theatre, on Saturday at 1 p.m. The National Theatre Live production is part of Arts in the Afternoon at the Opera House.
Five-time Olivier Award-winner Staunton joins forces with her real-life daughter Bessie Carter (Bridgerton) for the very first time, playing mother and daughter in George Bernard Shaw’s incendiary moral classic.
Vivie Warren is a woman ahead of her time. Her mother, however, is a product of that old patriarchal order. Exploiting it has earned Mrs. Warren a fortune – but at what cost?
Filmed live in London’s West End, this new production reunites Staunton with director Dominic Cooke (Follies, Good), exploring the clash between morality and independence, traditions and progress.
Broadway World gives the production “five stars.” The Independent (UK) says “Imelda Staunton is magnificent!” WhatsOnStage calls it “a tour de force.” The production runs one hour, 57 minutes with no intermission.
Individual tickets are $15, ($10 students). Tickets may be purchased in person at the Opera House Box Office or by phone at 716-679-1891, Tuesday-Friday, 12-4:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online anytime at www.fredopera.org. Arts in the Afternoon at the Opera House is sponsored by Dr. James M. & Marcia Merrins.
For this production, the Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or Opera House staff member.
