Silver Creek High School presents ‘Mean Girls’

"Mean Girls High School Edition" will be at Silver Creek High School on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. with a matinee on Sunday at 2 p.m. Above is pictured the cast of the upcoming production.

Silver Creek High School presents the student musical “Mean Girls High School Edition,” from Friday to Sunday.

The global sensation, “Mean Girls High School Edition” centers Cady Heron as she navigates a new high school. She may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new high school in the US. How will Cady rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, the most popular girls in school, led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. But when Cady and her friends devise an end to Regina’s reign, she learns the hard way that you can’t cross a queen bee without getting stung.

Adapted from the 2004 hit film, “Mean Girls” was nominated for a staggering 12 Tony Awards. This show took Broadway by storm and is hitting the stage in Silver Creek.

“I think our audience is going to enjoy how much joy we have on stage,” senior Irelynd Henry said.” There are some moments in the show when we will be giggling along with the audience.”

The performance features 47 Silver Creek students in grades seven to 12 as cast, pit band, and stage crew.

“My favorite part about my character is her character development,” senior Haleigh Salisbury said of her role as Cady Heron. “She goes from not knowing who she wants to be to finding the wrong part of herself, before finally finding who she is and being comfortable in her own skin.”

Audiences may have seen the 2004 movie, but the songs add to the familiar story. Some of the cast’s favorite numbers are “Where Do You Belong?” “Apex Predator,” and “World Burn.”

The community is invited to enjoy Silver Creek High’s student musical production of “Mean Girls High School Edition” on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. with a matinee on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the auditorium. The show’s two acts will be split by a 15-minute intermission featuring a basket raffle, concessions, and “kiss the cast” fundraiser to support the district’s Performing Arts Department and the Performing Arts Boosters. Tickets can be purchased online at silvercreekhs.seatyourself.biz. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for students/senior citizens.

This show is rated PG-13 due to suggestive language and references, but the director and cast have made modifications to make it even more family friendly.
