Artscape Jamestown to host opening reception May 21

ArtScape Jamestown has finalized its 2026 season, featuring a lineup of public art events.

An opening reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21, hosted collaboratively by Chautauqua Art Gallery and Pearl City Clay House.

Now in its fourth year, ArtScape will display 59 banners installed throughout downtown Jamestown in June, showcasing the juried work of regional artists and transforming Jamestown into an open-air gallery.

“This exhibition represents the heart of ArtScape — bringing artists and the public together in meaningful, accessible ways,” said Leslie Calimeri, owner of Chautauqua Art Gallery. “We’re excited to showcase the original works behind the banners and create an engaging, walkable arts experience for the community.”

The original artwork featured on the banners will be exhibited indoors from May 21 through July 4 at both gallery locations. The opening reception will begin at the Chautauqua Art Gallery at 5 p.m., with remarks at 5:30 p.m. Guests are then invited to walk or drive to Pearl City Clay House to experience the full exhibition.

Those attending can take part in the Third Street Third on Third festivities hosted by the Chamber of Commerce along the route between venues. Visitors can even conclude their evening with a free concert at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m.

“We love providing a space where people can connect directly with artists and their process,” said Deb Eck, program director at Pearl City Clay House. “This season offers multiple opportunities to experience art in a relaxed, welcoming environment.”

Additional summer programs include:

– Sunday Artist Salons at the Pearl City Clay House. The free, informal gatherings invite guests to meet ArtScape artists and learn about their work and creative processes. June 14, July 12, and August 9 from 2 to 4 p.m.

– ArtScape Jamestown will host a tent featuring interactive activities, including a scavenger hunt, button-making, and ArtScape merchandise. Saturdays: June 20, July 4 and 18, and Aug. 1 and 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

– Plein air and sketching sessions at the Farmers Market Artists are invited to gather at the ArtScape Farmers Market tent between 9 and 10 a.m. to sketch or paint on location, then reconvene at 12:30 p.m. to share their work.

ArtScape Jamestown is a public art initiative that celebrates the region’s creative talent by displaying original artwork on banners throughout the city. The program connects artists, residents, and visitors through accessible, community-focused art experiences. For full details, artist information, and updates, visit artscapejamestownny.com
