June events at the Patterson Library

WESTFIELD — The Patterson Library, located at 40 S. Portage St., offers a wide variety of free events and programs for the month of June. Registration is not required unless stated otherwise. Call or visit the library during open hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m; Tuesday, Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; closed Sundays. Call 716-326-2154.

For adults 18-plus:

— Join one of the monthly book clubs; Best Sellers, Book Chat, Book Talk and Mystery Book Club. Call to confirm dates; no registration is required. There will be an author visit with Paul Leone on Tuesday, June 9 at 5:30 p.m. The Fireside Lecture Series with CCHS on Thursday, June 4 at 6 p.m. will feature Dr. Thomas Hegna, SUNY Fredonia, presenting “The Geological History of Western New York.”

— “Planning for the Future: Estate Planning Basics” is set for Monday, June 15 at 5 p.m. Join Jeffrey McCormack and Veronica Van Nest of Manning & Napier for a beginner-friendly discussion on wills, estate planning basics, common mistakes to avoid and planned giving options. Questions encouraged; free and open to the public. — Embroidery Hour is planned for the last Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. All skill levels are welcome; bring your own supplies or get started with beginner supplies. Cozy Crafters meets weekly on Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. Work on any handicraft; no registration is required. — Return of Culinary Creations meets Monday, June 1 at noon. Sign up and choose a recipe from America’s Most Wanted Recipes to make/share at the June lunch hour.

— Chef Jim will be at the library Tuesday, June 16 at 3 p.m. The Chef will be focusing on German cuisine.

— An Octagon Gallery opening for Steve Swank will take place Friday, June 12 from 5 to 7 p.m..

13 Walls: Katherine Kepner – “Remembered Places” will be on display until July 3. In the children’s area:

— “Unearth a Story” Summer Reading Program will begin July 1. Stop in or call to register in June. Join us for a roaring good summer of reading! — Other children’s activities include Playtime for Toddlers each Thursday at 10:15 a.m. for ages 0 to 3; Giggle and Grow Storytime will be held Friday, June 12 at 10:30 a.m. for ages 3 to 5 and their families. Errica from Wanderlust Catering will demonstrate ice cream making. Note: this is the last storytime until September. LEGO Club is Saturdays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Crochet & Crafters’ Club is taking a break for the summer.
