‘The Sheep Detectives’ part of Cinema Series
w/pic Hugh Jackman plays George Hardy in “The Sheep Detectives.”
The Cinema Series continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center with screenings of “The Sheep Detectives” this Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Tuesday night screening will be shown with captions visible on the screen.
George Hardy (Hugh Jackman) is a shepherd who loves his sheep. Every night he reads aloud a murder mystery, never suspecting that not only can they understand but they argue for hours afterwards about whodunnit. When George is found dead under mysterious circumstances, the sheep realize at once that it was a murder and will have to solve it themselves, even if it means leaving their meadow for the first time and facing the fact that the human world isn’t as simple as it appears in books.
The Boston Globe calls the film “ one of the most enjoyable movies of the year.” The New York Post calls it a “kid-friendly Miss Marple yarn with eccentric village suspects.” The Toronto Globe and Mail calls it “a delightful respite from all that’s wearisome.” Mashable says “If you love ‘Only Murders in the Building’ or ‘The Thursday Murder Club,’ you’ll adore ‘The Sheep Detectives,’ an utter crowd-pleaser.” TheWrap notes “As cozy farm animal detective stories go, it simply can’t be bleat.” Rated PG for thematic material, some violent content, and brief language, “The Sheep Detectives” runs one hour, 50 minutes.
Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member. The Opera House Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Lake Shore Bank.
