Gowanda hosting Drum & Bugle Corps; rehearsals open to community

GOWANDA — More than 150 musician-athletes with the Legends Drum & Bugle Corps from Kalamazoo, Mich., are being hosted at and rehearsing on the campus of the Gowanda Central School District for two days this week ahead of the Drums Along the Waterfront-Tour of Champions competition next month at New Era Field in Orchard Park.

The Legends’ final rehearsal block on Wednesday, July 25 will run from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Hillis Field with the corps performing a full run-through of their 12-minute show at the end of the rehearsal as a thank you to the Gowanda community.

Additionally, all rehearsals during the group’s two-day stay are open to the public. Rehearsals set today, July 24 run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Rehearsals on Wednesday, July 25 run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The instructional staff — comprising some of the top music educators in the country — is willing to answer the public’s questions and the performers enjoy sharing details about their drum corps experience.
