Kyle van Schoonhoven

Kyle van Schoonhoven, a 2011 State University of New York at Fredonia graduate and Metropolitan Opera National Council Grand Finals winner, will return to campus this semester for the second part of his residency as a Williams Visiting Professor.

On Friday at 7 p.m., Mr. van Schoonhoven will give the first of two public master classes in Rosch Recital Hall featuring Fredonia student singers. The second master class will be on Tuesday, April 4, from 4 to 6 p.m., in Rosch Recital Hall.

On Thursday, March 9, at 8 p.m. in Rosch, van Schoonhoven will present a concert with soprano Sarah Cambidge and pianist Anne Kissel. It has been described as a rare opportunity to hear Richard Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder as well as the Brautgemach (Bridal Chamber) scene from the opera “Lohengrin.”

Four students – Ashley Zielezinski, a sophomore Music Education major; Patrick Connolly, a senior Voice Performance major; Abigail Brudz, a senior Music Education major, and Alyssa Santiago, a junior Music Therapy major – will sing for and be coached by van Schoonhoven in a master class format.

The master classes and concert are free and open to the public.

Also, this spring, van Schoonhoven will work with students in a variety of settings, including Opera Seminar, Lessons, Opera Scenes, Musical Theater Styles, Diction classes, choral ensembles, Vocal Pedagogy, and Composition.

The Williams Visiting Professorship is made possible through an endowment established with the Fredonia College Foundation.
