‘Banshees of Inisherin’ coming to Fredonia Opera House
The next film in the Cinema Series at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center is the Oscar-nominated “The Banshees of Inisherin,” starring Brendon Gleeson and Colin Farrell. It will be screened Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Nominated for nine Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actor for Farrell, Best Supporting Actor for Gleeson and Barry Keoghan, and Best Director for Martin McDonogh, “The Banshees of Inisherin” follows lifelong friends, P’draic (Farrell) and Colm (Gleeson), on a remote island off the coast of Ireland. P’draic is devastated when his buddy Colm (Gleeson) suddenly puts an end to their friendship. With help from his sister and a troubled young islander, P’draic sets out to repair the damaged relationship by any means necessary. However, as Colm’s resolve only strengthens, he soon delivers an ultimatum that leads to shocking consequences.
The Seattle Times calls the film “both a tiny story of two men, and a larger allegory of what happens when a small disagreement spins out of control.” The Detroit News calls it “easily one of the year’s very best films.” The
Arizona Republic says it is “visually stunning, well written and the acting is top-notch.” Rex Reed calls it “nothing short of a marvel.” Rated R for language throughout, brief graphic nudity, and some violent content, “The Banshees of Inisherin” runs one hour, 49 minutes.
