Johnny Peers & The Muttville Comix arrives Saturday

Johnny Peers and The Muttville Comix perform at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. of Saturday as part of Rockefeller Arts Center’s Kaleidoscope Family Series.

Sit! Stay! — and prepare to have a good time when Rockefeller Arts Center presents Johnny Peers & The Muttville Comix for two “howling good” shows on Saturday, Feb. 4. at the State University of New York at Fredonia.

Show times are 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Robert W. Marvel Theatre on the Fredonia campus. This Kaleidoscope Family Series event is recommended for dog lovers from age 5 to 95. The show is approximately one hour long.

Johnny Peers and the Muttville Comix offer a slapstick comedy act like no other. Peers leads over a dozen dogs through challenging and hilarious tricks as he plays the straight man role in this funfilled show.

A Ringling Brothers Clown College graduate, Peers has been working with dogs since he got his first puppy, Freckles, a beagle mix, from the Humane Society. Peers learned the ropes of traveling show business at an early age while working for his father, who was a concessionaire at Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Since their debut, the Muttville Comix have appeared on David Letterman, Primetime Live and Circus of the Stars. They have also performed at Disneyland, Busch Gardens, the Big Apple Circus, the Royal Hanneford Circus and the White House. The Muttville Comix were the 2003 Animal Planet Pet Star winners.

The stars of the performance are dogs, most of which were rescued from shelters or pounds. This includes Murphy, the ladder climbing fox terrier and Willy, the border collie who only answers to “sir.”

The Kaleidoscope Family Series is sponsored by The OBSERVER and The Post-Journal as part of the Lake Shore Savings Season. Tickets are available through the Campus Ticket Office, by phone at 673-3501 and online at fredonia.edu/tickets.
