‘Little Mermaid’ makes a big splash

SILVER CREEK — The community is invited to dive “Fathoms Below” with the talented students of Silver Creek High School at its upcoming production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” musical.

Explore “The World Above” with mermaid Ariel and immerse yourselves in her enchanted undersea country, which is conveniently temporarily located in the district auditorium between April 13-16, 2023. All performances feature dozens of talented Black Knights in grades 9-12.

One unique detail about the SCCS production is that a few roles are collaborations and a handful of student actors are sharing the spotlight by switching off for alternating performances.

The plot: Ariel’s father is a King, and she has a beautiful singing voice. But she is a passionate, headstrong teenager, and wants what she cannot have — to live on land. When she falls in love with a handsome human prince, Ariel is determined to gain a pair of legs. But her only option is to defy her furious father and bargain with Ursula the Sea Witch, giving her voice as the price of entry onto dry land. With the help of Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull, and officious court composer Sebastian the crab, Ariel must wordlessly gain Prince Eric’s love within three days — or lose her soul to the ambitious witch.

Songs include “Part of Your World,” “She’s in Love,” “Her Voice,” “Under the Sea,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” “Beyond My Wildest Dreams,” “Kiss the Girl,” and many more.

Performances are scheduled Thursday through Saturday, April 13-15 at 7 p.m. with a matinee Sunday, April 16, 2023, at 2 p.m. Each show has two acts separated by a 15-minute intermission with concession sales and raffles benefitting the Performing Arts at Silver Creek CSD.
