Fredonia Opera House Cinema Series to show ‘Air’
“Air” reveals the Michael Jordan and Nike historic combination and is playing at the Fredonia Opera House.
The next film in the Cinema Series at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center is “Air,” starring Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Viola Davis. It will be screened Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
“Air” reveals the unbelievable game-changing partnership between a then-rookie Michael Jordan and Nike’s fledgling basketball division, which revolutionized the world of sports and contemporary culture with the Air Jordan brand. Directed by Affleck, the moving film follows the career-defining gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line, the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the worth of her son’s immense talent, and the basketball Phenom who would become the greatest of all time.
IndieWire calls the film “a slam dunk and ultimately one of the best sports movies ever made!” The Chicago Sun-Times calls it “as entertaining and fast-paced as an NBA Finals game that is destined for overtime.” ABC News says “Affleck slam dunks a film about a basketball sneaker, and it’s the first all-star Oscar contender of 2023.” The San Jose Mercury News says that “while material like this might sound like it could be deadly dull for anyone uninterested in sports and shoes, Affleck’s heartwarming story holds appeal for all.” Rated R for language throughout “Air” runs one hour, 52 minutes.
Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors and Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. A book of 10 movie passes is available for $60 at the door or online at www.fredopera.org. For more information, call the Opera House Box Office at 716-679-1891.
