Harp Day features two events open to public

Elizabeth Yeoh-Wang

Harp Day at the State University of New York at Fredonia, slated for Sunday will feature two events free and open to the public.

The event’s Grand Finale Concert is slated for 4:30 p.m. in Mason Hall Room 1080.

Those attending will enjoy “the most heavenly of sounds” – a room full of harps – more than 20 harps playing together with a variety of ensemble music from folk songs to polkas.

Every year, harpists of all ages from across the region gather together for a day of fun music-making during Harp Day.

In addition, the Fredonia School of Music will present a Guest Artist Recital by harpist Elizabeth Yeoh-Wang at 1 p.m. in Mason Hall Room 1080. Ms. Yeoh-Wang, who began playing the harp at 9 years of age, is a graduate of the five-year, dual-degree Harvard/New England Conservatory program, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Harvard and a Master of Music degree in Harp Performance from NEC. She won first prize in the Young Professional division of a national, earning her the title of American Harp Society Concert Artist.

She will perform works by Liszt, Renie, and Godefroid.

The recital is made possible by the American Harp Society Concert Artist Program, thanks to the Western New York Chapter of the society.
