Orchesis presents spring showcase with three April performances

Photo by Becca Torncello The Orchesis Spring 2024 Showcase runs from Friday to Sunday at the State University of New York at Fredonia with 60 dancers set to perform.

Orchesis, the student-run dance company at the State University of New York at Fredonia, is gear-ing up for its next production with the largest cast in more than five years.

The Orchesis Spring 2024 Showcase takes place on April 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. and April 14 at 2 p.m. in Bartlett Theatre on the Fredonia campus. Tickets are available online 24/7 at www. fre-donia.edu/tickets or by phone (716-673-3501) and in person at the Campus Ticket Office in the Williams Center.

“We have a cast of 60 dancers, choreographers and tech personnel involved and all are students,” said Orchesis Dance Company President Kaylee Brott. “This is our biggest cast in at least five years.”

The showcase will feature 18 dance pieces representing contemporary, jazz, hip-hop and tap styles.

“Orchesis wants to show the audience that there is diversity in dance,” said Brott, a Dance major and Theatre Arts minor. “No matter what your major is, how old you are, what you look like or how much experience you have, dancing can bring us together and everybody can dance.”

The company puts on two major concerts a year which are choreographed and performed by Fre-donia students. Orchesis also sponsors guest artists, workshops, master classes and charity events throughout the school year.

Orchesis has been part of Fredonia for almost 60 years. The company was founded in 1967.

The goal of Orchesis is to allow all students, regardless of experience a chance to create and ex-press themselves through dance.
