Fredonia’s Smith launching book series
Fredonia resident Nick Smith will hold the local launch of his new book series, “Whiskers in the Dark,” at The Next Chapter bookstore, 12 Park Place in downtown Fredonia, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 31.
“Whiskers in the Dark” is a four-book saga set in a city built by cats. The hero is Julius Kyle, a feline journalist who works for a newspaper called The Scratching Post. The first book in the saga, “Milk Treading,” has been praised by The New York Times, NPR’s “All Things Considered,” David Letterman, Jilly Cooper, BBC Radio, The Scotsman and many others.
Nick Smith is a bestselling author, movie director, producer and actor who lives in Fredonia. He teaches filmmaking at SUNY Fredonia and Jamestown Community College.
A lifelong writer, Smith will be talking about his craft and signing copies of his books. Smith has written novels, non-fiction, anthologies, screenplays and comic books. His books include “American Spirit,” “The Secret Life of Teddy Bears,” “Eat Happy” and “Cloudwalking.”
Smith will be selling his books at a discounted price during the event. A portion of proceeds will go to Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County.

Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County provides free tutoring to adults looking to learn to read and speak English, basic math and test for their GED. The Next Chapter bookstore sells gently used books. 100% of the proceeds benefit LVCC programs.
