‘Abbey’ finale playing at Opera House

“Downton Abbey” — The Grand Finale,” will be Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Fredonia Opera House.

The Cinema Series continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center with screenings of the film, “Downton Abbey — The Grand Finale,” on Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Tuesday night screening will be shown with captions visible on the screen.

The Crawley family and their staff enter the 1930s. When Mary finds herself at the center of a public scandal and the family faces financial trouble, the entire household grapples with the threat of social disgrace. The Crawleys must embrace change as the staff prepares for a new chapter with the next generation leading Downton Abbey into the future.

The San Francisco Chronicle calls the film “delightful escapism for its fans, and with witty English playwright Noel Coward along to spice things up, it’s constantly amusing in a dry ‘Downton Abbey’ way.” TIME magazine calls it “a genteel fantasy worth leaving the couch for.” MovieFreak.com says “I smiled, I laughed, and I maybe even wiped away a couple of tears, and that’s exactly as it should be.” Rated PG for suggestive material, some thematic elements, and smoking, “Downton Abbey – The Grand Finale” runs two hours, three minutes.

Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member. The Opera House Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Lake Shore Bank.
