‘Eleanor the Great’ coming to Opera House
June Squibb stars in “Eleanor the Great.”
The Cinema Series continues at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House Performing Arts Center with screenings of “Eleanor the Great,” starring June Squibb, on Saturday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Tuesday night screening will be shown with captions visible on the screen.
In “Eleanor The Great,” Squibb brings to vivid life the witty and proudly troublesome 94-year-old Eleanor Morgenstein, who after a devastating loss, tells a tale that takes on a dangerous life of its own. Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut is a comically poignant exploration of how the stories we hear become the stories we tell.
The Austin Chronicle calls the film “enthralling and heartwarming.” NYC Movie Guru calls it “powerful, moving and provocative. The always-reliable June Squibb gives an Oscar-worthy performance.” AARP Movies for Grownups says “the definition of truth, and the nature of grief, are explored through a salty, shrewd and satisfying performance from (95-year-old) Squibb, who deserves and elevates all the roles that come her way.” Rated PG-13 for language, thematic elements, and suggestive references, “Eleanor the Great” runs one hour, 38 minutes.
Tickets are available at the door for $7 (adults), $6.50 (seniors & Opera House members) and $5 (students) the night of each screening. The Opera House is equipped with assistive listening headsets for the hearing-impaired. Simply request one from any usher or staff member. The Opera House Cinema Series is generously sponsored by Lake Shore Bank.
