Fredonia singer releases new Christmas album

From the mud of Woodstock ’69 to the ancient incense of Orthodox Christianity, American singer-songwriter Jim Giatas has lived one of the most unlikely journeys in contemporary sacred music.

Raised in the Orthodox Church, Giatas spent his youth chasing truth through the new age counterculture haze, Eastern mysticism, Roman Catholicism, and charismatic revivals — only to discover the fullness of the faith in the very Church where he was baptized as a child. “I ran to the ends of the earth,” he says, “and found home waiting exactly where I started.”

We shall not cease from exploration

And the end of all our exploring

Will be to arrive where we started

And know the place for the first time.

(T.S. Eliot)

Now he channels that hard-won conviction into songs that refuse to compromise. Writing, performing, recording, and playing every instrument himself in a modest home studio — no pitch correction, no digital shortcuts — Giatas crafts deeply human recordings that breathe with life and imperfection.

His stirring new Christmas album, “Great Is Thy Mystery (A Christian Christmas),” offers a rare gift in a season of commercial noise: carols rooted uncompromisingly in Holy Scripture and the 2,000-year tradition of the historic Orthodox Church, proclaiming the Incarnation without apology or dilution.

True to the words of Christ–“Freely you have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8)–the entire album is available to stream and download at no cost. All of Jim’s music is released the same way, and his live performances have always free of charge.

A layman holding no church office, Jim sees his calling plainly: to preserve the purity of the apostolic Gospel through spiritual songs offered solely for the glory of God.
